01

Just the Two of You

An elopement is a deliberate choice to keep your wedding day intensely personal: fewer guests, less logistics, and far more time for the two of you. As a Wellington wedding photographer who shoots a lot of intimate days, I'll document yours the same way I document a full wedding, just with all the noise stripped away.

That might be the two of you and a celebrant on a windswept clifftop, a handful of your closest people around you, or a micro-wedding of twenty over long lunch and good wine. Whatever shape it takes, the focus stays where it should be: on you, your vows, and the place you chose.

Wellington Was Made for This

Few places pack as much variety into a short drive as Wellington. You can exchange vows in native bush at Zealandia, on the rugged south coast at Seatoun or Island Bay, among the roses and glasshouses of the Botanic Gardens, or high on Mount Victoria with the whole harbour below you. Over a hill, the Wairarapa and Martinborough add vineyards and open farmland to the list.

Years of shooting here means I know which spots photograph beautifully in each season, which ones need a permit, and where to find shelter with a gorgeous backdrop when the famous Wellington weather turns. That local eye is half the value of an elopement photographer: I can help you pick a location that actually works on the day.

How an Elopement Differs from a Full Wedding

The photography is the same craft; the day is simply smaller and more flexible. There's no big getting-ready production, no long line of formal group shots, and far less waiting around. That usually means a shorter coverage window and a more relaxed pace, with room to wander to a second location for portraits if you'd like.

Because every elopement is different, from a 30-minute ceremony to a half-day adventure, I quote each one individually rather than forcing it into a full-wedding collection. Tell me your rough plan and I'll put together coverage that fits. If your day grows into a longer celebration, my wedding photography collections may be the better starting point.

Kind words

From couples I’ve photographed.

Absolutely phenomenal! Andy and Ryan captured our wedding day more beautifully than we could have ever imagined. From the very beginning, they made us feel completely comfortable and at ease, blending into the day so naturally while capturing every special moment with heart and creativity. Their professionalism, attention to detail, and artistic eye truly shine through in every photo and video.

Andy was an excellent communicator from the initial contact right to the delivery of our photos. We were thrilled with the photos he captured of our special day. He nailed it! The formal shots were great and the candid ones fabulous also. The way Andy interacted with the family and friends was lovely and he went the extra mile to capture photos that hadn't been planned. His flexibility and attention to detail were greatly appreciated.

Good to know

Frequently asked.

  • There are no hard rules. Most of the elopements I photograph are just the two of you with a celebrant, or a small group of close family and friends. A micro-wedding usually means somewhere up to around 20 to 30 guests. If you are not sure where your day sits, get in touch and we will work it out together.

  • Because elopements vary so much, from a short ceremony to a half-day adventure across a couple of locations, I quote each one individually rather than listing a fixed package. Tell me your plan and I will put together coverage and a price that fits. For full-day collections, see my wedding photography pricing.

  • Absolutely, this is one of the best parts of working with a local photographer. I know Wellington and the wider region well, from native bush and the south coast to the Wairarapa vineyards, including which spots photograph beautifully, which need a permit, and where to shelter if the weather turns.

  • Yes. Travel within the greater Wellington region is included, and I regularly travel to the Kapiti Coast, Wairarapa, Martinborough and Hawke’s Bay. For locations further afield a small travel fee may apply, and I will always confirm it upfront.

  • I can point you in the right direction. After years of shooting intimate weddings around the region I have worked alongside many wonderful celebrants and can suggest a few who are great with small, relaxed ceremonies.

I’ve written a couple of in-depth guides to help you plan an elopement around Wellington, from choosing the spot to sorting the celebrant, legals, and timeline. And because so many couples elope somewhere over a hill, my regional areas guide covers the wider region I travel to.
